Partial Closure of Burghley Park from Monday 31 July (16:00 hrs)
In preparation for 2023 Defender Burghley Horse Trials
The parkland area at Burghley will be partially closed to pedestrians and unauthorised vehicles from Monday 31 July to Friday 15 September 2023 to allow for the set-up of the 2023 Defender Burghley Horse Trials.
The closure is to ensure public safety during the site build and breakdown periods for the world-renowned equestrian and social event. The restricted area will be clearly signposted at key points in the park.
House, Gardens, Adventure Play and Car Park remain open
Burghley House, Gardens, Adventure Play and visitor car park will remain open as normal with access via the main visitor entrance at Pilsgate Lodges on Barnack Road.
Access to the Lower Park also remains open and unaffected.
Pedestrian route
A temporary pedestrian route will be in place from Monday 31 July to Sunday 20 August to provide access on foot to Burghley House from Stamford through the parkland from the Station Gate and Bottle Lodge entrances.
The signposted route around the perimeter of the closed area will be open daily from 7am to 8pm and takes in the iconic Lion Bridge, offering fantastic vistas of Burghley House.
Defender Burghley Horse Trials Event Director Martyn Johnson said: “In order to meet Health and Safety regulations, we are required to close the central area of the park to pedestrians and unauthorised vehicles during the event build and breakdown period. We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and would like to thank local residents and visitors for their understanding during the partial closure.”
Defender Burghley Horse Trials is widely recognised as one of the UK’s leading televised sporting events, attracting more than 170,000 visitors in recent years and generating significant revenue for the local economy.
The 2023 Defender Burghley Horse Trials takes place from Thursday 31 August to Sunday 3 September with tickets available to purchase online until midnight the day before the event, or on the gate. For more information and to buy tickets, please visit www.burghley-horse.co.uk.
