Judging took place yesterday for the 'best tradestands', with prizes awarded in three categories; best Pavilion stand, best Village stand and best Food stand.
Chairman of Burghley Horse Trials, Sir Richard Jewson KCVO, led the judging panel which awarded the Best Pavilion Stand to Koy Clothing, which can be found in the Burghley Lifestyle Pavilion.
Started by Jimmy and Alistair Scott just over five years ago the London-based company is also registered in Kenya where all the fabric is made and the belts hand beaded – it takes about two days to bead one belt. The stunning shirts with colourful details were particularly eye-catching.
“It's our fourth visit to Burghley,” Jimmy said, “and I've always wanted to win this award. I'm delighted!”
Moloh (stand C16),
named in honour of 'an amazing chocolate brown labrador we had called
Rolo', claimed the Best Village Tradestand award. Established 18
years ago and selling luxury womens clothing, owner Caroline Smiley explained: “We have been coming to
Burghley for 18 years too, but have previously been in the Country
Living marquee – this is the first time we have taken a stand
outside.
“We have twice won the Best Pavillion stand but it's huge to have won this award. It shows that someone has noticed all the work that goes in to it.”
The best Food Stand
award once again went to Dickinson & Morris which is famous for its pork pies. The stand can be found in the food walk. The 'face' of Dickinson & Morris
for decades, Stephen Hallam said, “We must have been coming to
Burghley for 25 years and as well as winning in 2019 we have been
runner up two or three times. It still gives us a buzz to win.
“I was really
thrilled that when the presentation was made yesterday I wasn't here
and my colleague Paula Gagin, who is taking over my role, could take the
credit along with the rest of the team, who are all exceptional. I
'retired' at the end of 2020 and work one day a week now, to pass on
my years of knowledge – Burghley being a key week because all sorts
of unexpected things can happen.
“Sales yesterday were the best we have ever had here - 20% up on 2019, so it looks like it's going to be a great show.”
