Celebrating the very top shops
Defender Burghley is world-renowned for its shopping, and this year the tradestands are ever more impressive with new avenues and more than 700 eclectic shops to choose from, selling everything from a saddle to a sandwich with high-end jewellery, clothing, art and furniture in between.
The judges of the Best Stand awards, therefore, had no easy task. These were their selections:
Best Food Walk Stand: Churtopia Lemonade, purveyors of home-made lemonade.
Best Pavilion Stand: Anne Marie Designs, eye-catching homewares and gifts.
Best Large Stand: Gladwell & Patterson, an international art gallery established in London in 1746 and with a gallery in Stamford, run by the third generation of the Fuller family.
Best Small Stand: Freckleface, handcrafted nature-inspired fragrance and well-being goods.
Sustainability Award: Ankole, handcrafted accessories made from the horn of the Ankole-Watus, an American long-horned cattle breed.
Prizes were presented by Burghley Horse Trials President Miranda Rock, who said: “What is really remarkable about today is reflecting on the variety of people who have started a business, brought it here and are so passionate about what they do.
"They present their stands in such a professional way, in the middle of the parkland, and together help create the wonderful atmosphere of the event.
"It makes for a wonderful day out, with the highest-quality shopping and businesses you might not find anywhere else. We feel very lucky to host them, and it has been really heartening to hand out these well-deserved awards.”
