Fundraising for the Georgie Campbell Foundation
Defender Burghley is delighted to be supporting fundraising efforts by the Georgie Campbell Foundation, set up in memory of event rider Georgie Campbell.

“Georgie built a very
successful business by herself, and I think it's getting harder and
harder for the kids coming in to the sport. If we can try to help
navigate the process for someone through our bursary that would be a
great legacy,” said Georgie's husband Jesse, who is competing here
at Burghley on Cooley Lafitte.
A key aim of the
foundation is to support and progress cross-country safety, with a
focus on frangible fences. At the same time, the foundation has
launched a bursary for one lucky applicant who competes at three-star
level or above. Applications close on 30th September and
Jesse is thrilled with the number of interested riders.
Jesse hosted a sell-out
cross-country course walk on the Thursday, and a cross-country course
review – also sold out. “Our online auction is still going on;
bids close at 8pm on 10th September and tickets can be
bought online or in the EHOA tent here at Burghley. I think Georgie
would be bursting with pride,” said Jesse, pointing out that they
are still a small charity finding its feet. “It's very special
seeing riders wearing white and purple ribbons. People remembering
Georgie is very important to me.
“Los Angeles 2028 is
a really strong focus for me. I have a lovely horse called Speedwell,
originally ridden by Georgie who took him on as a three-year-old. She
always said he would be the best horse in the world - so no pressure!
But it's a beautiful connection back to her; I think he's incredible
and just want to do her proud.
“Speedwell and I head to Boekelo this autumn, which is actually where I met Georgie, so it will be really cool to take him there.”
