Will Coleman wins the Avebury Trophy
American rider Will Coleman has won the prestigious Avebury Trophy, which is presented by Rosemary Barlow in honour of her triple Burghley-winning horse Avebury (2012-14), ridden by Andrew Nicholson.
It is presented to the rider who completes the best cross-country round at Defender Burghley, judged by dual winner Pippa Funnell.
Will is currently lying 13th after cross-country on the 11-year-old Irish sport horse mare Very Dignified.
"Will's round was so smooth," she said. "It was beautifully ridden, taking into account the fact that it was the mare's first five-star, and he really had the edge for style."
Pippa also commended British riders Holly Richardson, for her fast first round, on Ballyneety Silver Service, and Katie Magee on Treworra.
