Stamford’s Best Dressed Window competition returns to celebrate Defender Burghley Horse Trials
After its successful launch last year, with 27 local businesses taking part, Burghley Horse Trials is once again inviting Stamford shops and businesses to create a themed window display for the Best Dressed Window title in the lead up to the legendary Defender Burghley Horse Trials.
The historic Lincolnshire town of Stamford has long had a symbiotic relationship with the world-leading Defender Burghley Horse Trials held each September, and which this year celebrates its 65th anniversary. Many Stamford businesses choose to exhibit in the Event’s shopping village, just as many Horse Trials visitors enjoy staying, dining and shopping in Stamford.
To celebrate this relationship and the world class event, Burghley - in association with Shop Stamford - is again challenging them to create a window which celebrates the iconic equestrian event.
The shop or business with the Best Dressed Window will win £500 cash prize with a range of further prizes for runners up. Formal in-person judging takes place on 19th August, by a small panel comprising local figures and media representatives. Additionally, there’s a new prize this year for the best window judged online by the general public.
Displays may focus on the sport itself, the shopping and picnicking, the Event’s history, a favourite horse or rider, or nod to one of the iconic cross-country fences — anything goes, providing the display relates to the Horse Trials and is fun and eye-catching.
“Everyone at the Horse Trials appreciates how lucky we are to live next to a town as vibrant and beautiful as Stamford, and we very much enjoyed celebrating the ties between the Horse Trials and town last year through this competition,” said Burghley Horse Trials Event Director Martyn Johnson. “We are delighted it is back, and look forward to seeing some equally creative and entertaining windows this summer.”
