Following the announcement of the decision to cancel 2021’s Defender Burghley Horse Trials for the second year and the subsequent decision by Burghley House Preservation Trust Ltd (BHPT), the charitable parent of all that happens at Burghley, to bring the management of the Horse Trials more into line with all their other events and activities which take place each year, Elizabeth Inman, Burghley Horse Trials' long-standing Event Director is standing down.

Elizabeth Inman has been involved in the Burghley Horse Trials in one way or another for over forty years. Commenting on today’s announcement (22nd July), Chairman of Burghley Horse Trials Ltd, Edward Clive, said ‘In many respects Elizabeth is Burghley Horse Trials having been involved for so long and today’s announcement is a milestone event. On behalf of everyone at Burghley, I would like to thank her for a lifetime’s dedication to this event which has grown beyond recognition since 1961 when we started with just 19 competitors and 12,000 visitors. Plans are already underway for delivering a spectacular anniversary event in 2022.’

Elizabeth Inman said, 'I have had a wonderful and fulfilling career spanning over forty years at Burghley Horse Trials, where I have been privileged to work as a member of such a fantastic team in such idyllic surroundings. My principal reward has been the opportunity to play a role in the development of this great Competition and the lifelong friendships that I have forged amongst all who have helped contribute to its success and who, I know, will continue to do so.'

The 2022 Defender Burghley Horse Trials will take place from Thursday 1st September to Sunday 4th September. Tickets will go on sale in April 2022.
