Next year one of the most popular televised outdoor sporting events in the UK, Defender Burghley Horse Trials is set to open its doors to the public for five days.

In 2020 this international competition will welcome some of the rapidly growing number of amateur eventing athletes, to compete in the entry level BE80 (T) Championship on behalf of the sport’s governing body British Eventing. This will take place on the Wednesday of the Event, along with the long-standing ‘First Horse Inspection’ for the main competition.

Defender Burghley Horse Trials’ famous shopping village will also be open all day on the Wednesday.

Event Director Elizabeth Inman said: “We see this as a natural progression: for amateur riders at grassroots level to have the opportunity to ‘compete at Burghley’ alongside our elite international, Olympic-level riders. We are confident this ticketed event will be well supported throughout the duration.”

Next year Defender Burghley Horse Trials will take place from Wednesday 2nd September – Sunday 6th September 2020. Tickets for all five days will be on sale in April 2020 from the Defender Burghley Horse Trials Box Office.
