The Gurkha Welfare Trust Named Charity Of The Year 2018
We are delighted to announce that The Gurkha Welfare Trust will become Defender Burghley Horse Trials’ official charity in 2018.
Applications from a wide range of charities were received for 2018 but the Gurkha’s values of loyalty, professionalism and bravery struck a chord with us, particularly in a year that will be the centenary of the end of World War 1.
Event Director, Elizabeth Inman commented:
“We were very pleased to receive so many quality applications and are thrilled to be supporting the Gurkhas in such a poignant year. We hope that our partnership will help The Gurkha Welfare Trust’s work for this incredible group of people who have earned no less than 13 Victoria Crosses.”
Head of Fundraising at The Gurkha Welfare Trust, Sam Cherrington added:
“We are so delighted to be partnering with Defender Burghley in 2018. For over 200 years the Gurkhas have served in the British Army and we work to ensure that their veterans, their widows and their wider communities are able to live their lives with dignity when they return to their home country of Nepal. By partnering with Defender Burghley we hope to reach others who can help us in our mission to repay our country’s debt of honour to these brave men.”
